Article Progress

I have now added the interview with my model and a picture to the article. When I place my picture in the middle of my text I had to use text wrap so that the text avoided the picture making it easy to read what was being said throughout the interview.

Finished front cover

Today I finished off my frony cover. To make the readers feel involved I included a smart phone bar code in which they can scan and recieve all of the latest 'BASS' news staright to their phone. I stuck to the house style I orginally agreed on to make my magazine look professional.

Double Page Article

Today I started creating my double page article. By using InDesign, it allows me to seperate my article into columns to make it look more professional. By knowing how to add in photo's it makes it easier to wrap the text around the images so that they dont go over the text and make it hard for the reader to understand.

Front cover progress

Today I started adding some cover stories to the front cover. I also added a banner down the bottom of the cover including some more famous people who will have articles written about them within the magazine. I have kept the same house style throughout the design of this front cover which makes it look professional and draws the reader in.

Magazine Progress

Over the past 2 lessons and during my own time, I have been creating the front cover for my magazine. I have used a number of different layers and effects in order to make sure the lighting and effects are good enough quality. Above my magazibe's title, I have used the subtitle 'BRITAINS NUMBER ONE POP MAGAZINE' in order to try and draw in the audience which my magazine is aimed at. Next I need to add in extra information and begin to create my contents page and double page article.

Photographs

Today I started photographing some images ready for my magazine front cover and double page article. I got a number of photographs that were good enough quality for my magazine as the light was fine, camera was focused and still. However on this image the camera appeared not to be on the tripod properly and the photograph has ended up blurry near the hair and out of focus at certain points. For this reason I will not be using the above image and the ones below on my magazine front cover and double page article.

Font

Street Wild

I found this font on the website http://www.fontspace.com/jonathan-s-harris/street-wild. In order to be able to use this font on my website I had to get in touch with the designer Jonathan Harris. I later recieved confirmation about using this font. It fits in with the style of my magazine, as the magazine is for teenage girls interested in music and social life. It gives off a vibe that would urge people to buy the magazine and overall is a good font to use.

Magazine Progress

I am currently writing my article for my magazine. I have asked a number of questions which are in red and the responses in black. This makes it easy to identify  the Q&A's whilst fitting in with my house style of red, black and white. Some of the questions are related to music and hwo success occured however some were just for entertainment to make the article more fun to read.

Writing the Article

My main task today was to start getting my article written. This would consist of two sides of A4 on Word in the font Times New Roman and font size 12. I have to write this into paragraphs as putting it into colums would be a waste of time and it would be easier to do this on Photoshop. My main idea when creating this article was to think of something that would appeal to the audience the magazine was aimed at. This meant they would be more intreged to buy it as the story was for their age group and covered all of their main interests.

Flat-Plans

I have now designed my flatplans. I looked at other examples from the internet and used these to help me when creating my own. I used basic magazine features such as a masthead, images, bold text and on the contents page I used an A-Z index in order to make the navigation around the magazine easier. I will scan these into my computer and later load them onto the blog. My next task is to start creating my article, front cover and contents page along with taking my photographs that fit in with the theme of my magazine.

Saturday 16 November 2013

One of my tasks was to write a blog post on the uses and gratifications in media in society. I had to look at how this applied to a number of magazines I had recently looked at and how I would be able to include all of them into my own once it was created. To help me with this I used the website http://heworthmediastudies.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/uses-and-gratifications-and.html . It included alot of helpful information that I could use in order to complete the last bit of the music magazine task successfully.

Thursday 14 November 2013

One of the objectives in this task was to create an appropriate reader profile. I had to look at the results I had receieved from my survey and base the profile around this. I inlcuded the colour pink which is related to girls in general society and included images that I would associate with teenage girls who are interested in music and social life. the images will draw in a reader as they might think they apply to them as they are both interested in the same things as what are included on the reader profile.

Thursday 24 October 2013

This is the reader profile i have created based on the results I have gained from my survey for BASS magazine. The audience is teenage girls aged 14-18 meaning the images on here are girly and all of their interests.
After making my survey and collecting a sufficient amount of results, I did an analysis. From this I found out that my target audience was going to teenage girls interested in their social life and the top music. I then had to take this consideration and mould this together with the rest of the things I had to base my magazine around.

I also had to research the ownership of my magazine. It is clear from the post below that I had 2 options after looking at my research.
Music Magazine Survey Analysis

  • From my survey , it is clear that more females are interested in music magazine with 63% of them filling in the survey.
  • The most common age in the survey was 14-18 and 30+ being the least which means when creating my music magazine it has to be fun, colourful and appropriate for the right audience.
  • The magazine will be a mix between pop and dubstep with both of these categories of music being the most popular in the survey.
  • From my survey it is agreed that the house style will be black, white and red, fitting in with a pop and dubstep theme.
  • As 'Bass' was the most popular magazine name, I will use this.
  • The audience thought it would be best to publish the magazine once a fortnight which means the people who are dedicated to buying it will have time to get the money they need to buy it.
  • The audience are willing to pay anything from £1.95-£3.99 to the magazine but the cheapest option being the favourite.
  • As the audience are fun and young, it became apparent that the most popular magazine bought was 'MixMag'.
 Research into Ownership

MixMag
My magazine will be published by 'MixMag'. MixMag  was the world's first dance music magazine and has been the market leader ever since. The first issue was printed on 1 February 1983 as a 16-page black-and-white magazine published by Disco Mix Club, a DJ mailout service.  The magazine, which reached a circulation of up to 70,000 copies during the height of the popularity of acid house, was later sold to EMAP Ltd.   Mixmag is now a magazine for the entire world of dance music, whether you like hard boshing music that's quite druggy, or chill out music, or you're someone like me who likes to keep in touch with the music but has grown out of clubbing. This idea that dance music is a kind of minority interest, a bit like ska, is wrong."http://www.mixmag.net/
NME
NME could also publish my magazine. It was created by Theodore Smythson, is a UK weekly pop/rock music journalism publication, published since March 1952. It started as a music newspaper, and gradually moved toward a magazine format during the 1980s, changing from newsprint in 1998. It was the first British paper to include a singles chart, in the 14 November 1952 edition. In the 1970s it became the best-selling British music newspaper. http://www.nme.com/magazine

Music Magazine Survey Results

Monday 14 October 2013

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.

Monday 7 October 2013

The next part of my task was to create a survey in order to create some results to base my magazine around. By asking general questions such as the gender, their interests in music magazines and their age, it gave me the foundations I needed to start planning my magazine. I asked the publics opinion on a genral house style, the name of the magazine and how often it should be released. This meant that when the magazine is eventually created it meets the publics wants and needs.

Thursday 3 October 2013

For the first part of my media studies task, I was asked to analyse 4 front covers, 4 contents pages' and 4 double page articles. I had to look at the kind of shot used by the photographer, the font used and the kind of target audience it was aimed at. After analysing each of these, I had to take all of the information I had just gathered into consideration when doing preperation for my own magazine. This became very helpful as I knew what questions had to be asked in order to get the right information.

Double Page Article/Feature Analysis

This is the last part of my research. I analysed 4 double page articles , looking at the images , layout and house style. This research is going to help when it comes to making my own magazin pages for my media studies task.

Contents Page Analysis

This is the link to slideshare again which i used to present my analysis of my contents pages from different music magazines. The analysis looks at the different aspects , house styles and font.
- This is a link to slideshare , which I have used to present my analysis of music magazine front covers. It labels the different aspects on the magazine and what makes them different to other magazines on the shelf. It talks about the different fonts and colours used and how the effect the look of a front cover.

Thursday 26 September 2013

For my preliminary task in media studies , i was asked to create a magazine front cover and a contents page. This was in preperation for when I was asked to create a music magazine as part of my first task.

My front cover uses bold text that stands out when put against an image. This makes it look professional and by using a picture of the Headteacher it lets people know more about the school by just looking at it.

My contents page carries on using the same house style as the front cover. This makes it look professional and by using a picture on the background , the text with the dropped shadow stands out.
